The TRUST Audit

A 90-minute one-on-one session that holds up a mirror to your current relationship with (and mindset around) presence, power, and deep connection.

But first, a story:

I remember the morning well. It was a Friday, that first week in February, 2021. I’m walking back and forth between my office and my hall closet aka my podcast recording booth.

🎙️Microphone set-up? Check. ☑️

💻Computer charged? Check. ☑️

🎧Headphones plugged in? Check. ☑️

I squeezed into my closet, took a seat on my recording stool and clicked to join the recording.

A few weeks prior I had mustered up enough courage to pitch to be a guest on one of my absolute favorite podcasts. I wasn’t expecting to hear anything back and when I did, I had this internal double take moment.

🧏 Me? Are you sure?

💭 Hillary, of course they are sure. You sent over a really great pitch and you are an expert in what you do.

🧠 It was like a toggle in my brain -- flip it one way and there's no trust in myself or my abilities, flip it the other way and I'm celebrating myself and the opportunities that I've helped to create.

I'm in my podcast closet and before we hit record, the host shared that she planned to run things a bit differently today.

I was very familiar with her show and I couldn't imagine what "different" was going to look like.

She explained: instead of her usual interview style, she wanted me to dive into my work. And not so much the “How did you get to where you are now?” line of questioning, more so my methodology, my company values, my unique approach to the work that I do.

I said, “That’s fine by me.”

In the amount of time it took to say “that’s fine by me,” I was overcome with fear and self-doubt.

Those five seconds in real time felt like five days in my mind:

😬 Is it possible for me to talk about my storytelling framework and philosophy like a true expert?

⁉️ No. YES. No. No. No. Maybe. No. YES. No.

😬 If I really take a stand and position myself as a consultant and coach who believes that my status-quo-breaking storytelling method is a powerful way to communicate that allows you to fully tap into who you are without fear, will the listeners be on my side? Or will I be judged?

⁉️ No. YES. No. No. No. Maybe. No. YES. No.

😬 Did I warm up my voice? I think I forgot to warm up my voice. If my voice cracks while I am speaking about speaking no one will take me seriously.

⁉️No. YES. No. No. No. Maybe. No. YES. No.

⚡The irrational thoughts continued at lightning speed. ⚡

And then I took a deep breath.

In that breath, I found presence and I reconnected with the trust in myself that I had cultivated ever since standing on a Story SLAM stage for the first time in 2009.

This wasn’t an I-Dream-of-Jeannie-arm-cross-and-nod nor a Bewitched-nose-wiggle type of conjuring. My abundance of self-trust didn’t just appear overnight.

Instead, I built it slowly over time.

And because of that slow build, I could breath after a 5-second pre-podcast interview freakout and tap into a big enough, loud enough YES and let all of the "No's" and "Maybe's" take a hike.

In order to move forward with an interview where the host was changing up their interview style, I needed to trust that I could tap into my presence and GO.

I needed to trust who I am, what I do, and what I stand for, and then share that wholeheartedly.

The host hit the record button and we were off.

✨I doubled down on my trust in myself.

✨I tapped into presence.

✨And the interview flowed.

It was one of those interviews where after it ended, I tried to replay it in my head and I couldn’t.

All I was left with was feelings.

💕 A feeling that I did the best I could.

💕 A feeling that it did not matter what happened next because I trusted the way I showed up and shared and that’s all I needed to do.

Trust in yourself is the foundation of the Trust Trifecta—something that I believe every human needs in order to use their voice and be heard.

Trust in yourself sets the stage for developing the other two “trusts” in the trifecta: trust in story and audience. Cultivating all three takes a brave commitment to yourself and the journey toward sharing your most authentic voice. And I can help you get there.

It all starts with self-trust.

Working with Tell Me A Story is life changing. I see this work as learning a new way of connecting myself to the world.
— Natira M.

The TRUST Audit is a 90-minute one-on-one assessment where I will help you connect with your baseline of self-trust through grounding exercises, journaling prompts, and creative brainstorming.

If you’re already worried that you don’t have “enough” self-trust, this assessment is the perfect place to start—because it will expose the truth.

Chances are you are closer to your self-trust baseline than you think.

In the assessment, you’ll find areas of opportunity to grow and expand from your baseline trust level. And most importantly, with my guidance and insight you will reveal your blindspots and turn them from a-ha moments into motivating action steps.

I’m so excited to support you on your path to self-trust—and beyond. Take the first step toward discovering and embracing the trust necessary to stay present, own your power (and your story), and deeply connect with other human beings.

Sincerely,

Hillary
